Researching the African Diaspora
AFRICA LIVES
In spite of the deadly storms of the past,
the turbulence of the Atlantic,
the babies dead and dying
parents weeping for the losses
which can never be replaced
Africa lives....
in spite of the atrocities at the slave auction houses throughout the Diaspora
where 20,000,000 no --more --than 20,000,000 men, women and children were bought and sold as human chattel over two centuries
Yet, Africa lives.....
grand ladies still sashay
to the rhythms of the drum
to the visions of the dream
like heartbeats between mothers and children always re-connecting across space and time
Africa lives...
in the prayers manifested of the ancestors,
in the cadence of hip hop beat,
in the projects, in the suburbs, in the tenements and
in the White House
Africa yet lives in America.......
